Challenge

Sophy Holland, a British photographer and director, is based in New York, Los Angeles, and London. Her extensive body of work encompasses the fashion, advertising, film, and entertainment industries. Her portraits are simply powerful, capturing the very essence of her subjects. Her signature style is unmistakable, characterized by its consistent infusion of energy and attitude. Over the years, our familiarity with Sophy has deepened as we collaborated on her book, 'Super Humans' – a beautifully crafted monograph of portraits. She is not only a masterful image creator but also an inspiring artist with a remarkable personality.

Solution

Together, we discussed crafting a visual identity for her practice. Through conversations and the exchange of mood imagery with Sophy, we naturally recognized the significance of embodying the things she loved and found inspiring. We tailored a hand-drawn blackletter typeface for her pseudonym 'Soho.' The resulting logo is sharp, well-balanced, modern, and easily legible. By incorporating her favorite colors, pink and red, we've effectively expressed the boldness and passion at the heart of her brand. Amidst a sea of black-and-white photographer logos featuring sans-serif fonts, our goal was to ensure her brand was recognizable and memorable. We want her and her crew to roll onto set feeling like the rockstars they are – a touch of metal, a hint of danger, and full of glamour.
